Artist Statement:
“Moments We Live For” is a collection that seeks to capture the essence of life’s most meaningful connections. Each piece is crafted using pyrography on wood, a technique that involves delicately burning the surface to create rich, monochromatic imagery with a velvety, tactile quality. This approach invites viewers to engage intimately with the artwork, feeling the warmth and depth of life’s fleeting moments captured on a natural, resilient surface.
The monochrome of the burned wood unifies cultural experiences, stripping each scene of specific markers to emphasize the universal nature of human connection. This anonymity encourages viewers to project their own stories onto the figures, finding echoes of their lives, relationships, and memories. Select touches of white and yellow acrylic accentuate the lightest areas, symbolizing moments of clarity, joy, and the ephemeral beauty that punctuates our lives. Finished with linseed oil and sealed with cold wax, each piece draws the eye with a polished, majestic presence that is both grounding and timeless. By working with natural materials like wood and practicing pyrography—a technique with minimal environmental impact—I aim to honor the natural world, finding beauty in simplicity and sustainability. This approach reflects my dedication to creat art that resonates not only aesthetically but also ethically, recognizing the harmony between creation and environment.
Ultimately, I aim to inspire viewers to reflect on their lives, appreciate family bonds, and recognize the profound connections that transcend cultural differences. This work invites a shared, introspective experience, encouraging us to see the beauty in life’s quiet, powerful connections that resonate beyond words.
