Uplifting, energetic and totally out of the ordinary performance

Surprise and spectacle erupt in unexpected locations as contemporary dance becomes public art. dance like no one is watching is inspired by mobile clubbing, shared experience and recontextualizing via remixing. From 2007 - 2011 dance like no one is watching animated and reshaped the public’s perspective of their space throughout Toronto and beyond at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, Harbourfront Centre's Hot Spot Festival, PS Kensington, Queen West Art Crawl and on transit, in shop windows and farmers market stalls throughout southern Ontario. For the 10th anniversary Stand Up Dance re-imagines dance like no one is watching in Pre-Mix #5 for Nathan Phillips Square for Toronto Outdoor Art and as Grassroots : Remix at The World Dance Alliance Global Summit in St. John's Newfoundland.

Stand Up Dance:  Moving. Social. Imagination

Canadian contemporary dance-theatre artist, Meagan O’Shea, creates and performs “Uplifting, energetic and totally out of the ordinary” solo, ensemble, participatory and site-specific work. Her dance like no one is watching improv project animates/disrupts public space and has reached over 30,000 passers-by and included 200 dancers (2007-11). Stand Up Dance is heading to Newfoundland this summer for dance like no one is watching ~ Grassroots : Remix for The World Dance Alliance Global Summit. Selected solos include: Where Truth Lies with local translator for international performance, Dora nominated The Atomic Weight of Happiness, interactive installation/performance something blue. Meagan teaches improvisation and creative process in art, education and social change contexts in North America and Europe. She is co-founder of hub14 in Toronto, was Associate Artist at Dance Ireland and Theatre Direct Canada, and Artist in Residence at fabrik Potsdam/Germany, Faber/Spain, The Banff Centre, Dance Victoria, Le Groupe Dance Lab in Canada, and the recipient of the KM Hunter Award in Dance. Stand Up Dance is a partner with Barcelona International Dance Exchange (BIDE). Current projects include a new solo, Dream Another Day, a feminist re-visioning of James Bond examining rape culture, hero worship and the inheritance of secret keeping; Dance-Scapes : Land-Songs, dance-films exploring power of place across Canada; Léxico, a platform for international exchange and collaboration via creating choreography in unspoken languages.
