Art Encounters

The Art Encounters program was supported by the Ontario Arts Council in 2017.
Higgins Event Rentals generously sponsored the tent rentals for our Art Encounters artists.

At Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, we have established a rich tradition of launching successful careers and providing a highly accessible venue for artists and the public to meet face-to-face. For the past 57 years, we have aimed to remove barriers to the arts from the perspective of cost, approachability and by welcoming diverse artists and audiences.

The Art Encounters program, generously supported by the Ontario Arts Council, provides free booth space and exhibition assistance to offset the costs and relieve the economic pressure of exhibition in the fair to a select group of five artists or makers who are disability identified Newcomer, and/or Indigenous. The Art Encounters program is an initiative that embodies our core value of accessibility. Through this program, we will be providing an in-depth professional development opportunity in the form of one-on-one mentorship sessions and a group workshop that will equip the selected artists with tools for success during the 2017 Exhibition.

Thousands of promising and exceptional artists have launched their careers from a simple white tent on the square. We want to make sure there are no barriers to any artists to access this fertile environment that we have nurtured for independent artists.

Through Art Encounters we will provide in-depth professional development opportunity in the form of one-on-one mentorship sessions with experienced participating artists and a group workshop to equip the selected artists with tools for success during the 2017 Exhibition. We will also provide Exhibition assistance, booth space and support to offset the costs and relieve the economic pressure of exhibiting in the fair to a select group of five artists.
